Bournemouth has joined in their school exchange programme.

A group of 7 students and 4 staff and will be travelling to Sri Lanka on Thursday 19th July for 12 days. They will be spending a few days touring Sri Lanka with Beyond Boundaries our partner on the ground in Sri Lanka. The group will then head to Batticaloa where they will spend a week visiting their link schools. They will be volunteering with Ocean Stars Trust which is a UK Registered Charity working in Sri Lanka empowering children through Education.

The group has spent the last year preparing for the trip. Parents meetings have been held where information about the trip, life in Sri Lanka and information about the charity has been given out. The students have also met during their lunch times to prepare activities to do with the students in Sri Lanka. The Avonbourne group has also been busy fund raising for the charity with cake sales, a sky jump and coffee mornings and sponsored events.

Debbie Godfrey Phaure CEO of Avonbourne Trust talks about why she embraced this opportunity for the students of Avonbourne College:

The dream of experiencing a different culture and becoming part of another country's community will become reality for the staff and students of Avonbourne College Bournemouth, in July 2018. They will have the privilege of enjoying the beauty of Sri Lanka whilst knowing that their visit will make a difference to the education of the children in Ocean Stars-linked schools. The college community hold dear the belief that we are all world citizens and that the footprint a traveller should leave ought always to be one which gives generously to the land it visits. It is an honour to do so in the beautiful land of Sri Lanka.
